Support LGBTQ+ Students and Allies in Roseville

As you may have seen in the news, last month a far-right-wing activist group targeted an LGBTQ+ youth and family support group in Roseville. The Landing Spot, a non-religious support program of the Loomis Basin Congregational United Church of Christ, has been operating for five years in Placer County including on the campuses of many local high schools to provide resources and safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth and parents.

Following the release of an illegally recorded and highly-edited video of Loomis Basin UCC Pastor Casey Tinnin, the Roseville Joint Union High School District has ended its partnership with The Landing Spot. Pastor Casey and members of the Loomis Basin UCC are receiving countless threats of violence and harm based on the video and growing anti-LGBTQ sentiment in the region and across the country.

LGBTQ+ youth need programs like The Landing Spot. If you are able, consider sending a letter of support to help The Landing Spot continue its lifesaving work in Roseville schools, and donating to help the Loomis Basin UCC overcome this attack.

Newsom Announces Six* LGBTQ+ Judicial Appointees!

On March 30, Governor Newsom announced his latest round of judicial appointees, which include six members of the LGBTQ+ community!
(*We inadvertently recognized only five in our original announcement)

All three nominees for the Court of Appeal are LGBTQ+ people, along with three of the 14 named for Superior Court judgeships.

Justice Laurie Earl was nominated to be the Presiding Justice of the Third District Court of Appeal, where she has served as an Associate Justice since 2022. Gonzalo Martinez was nominated to be an Associate Justice of the Second District Court of Appeal, Division Seven. Judge David Rubin was nominated to be an Associate Justice of the Fourth District Court of Appeal, Division One. Daniel Alexander was appointed to the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Lilys McCoy was appointed to the San Diego County Superior Court. And Leanne Mayberry was appointed to the El Dorado County Superior Court.

We recognize and thank the Governor's Office for the continued commitment to increasing the diversity of the bench, especially with respect to qualified LGBTQ+ candidates.
